It’s finally done. Went ahead and booked the final leg of my trip from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on Jet Air. I gave up on the idea of getting a train booked from over here – too many variables at this stage. My main purpose for thinking of getting a train was a consideration of baggage. The baggage allowance from the US to India isn’t bad at all, just when you get a domestic flight after that, the limit for free baggage is drastically reduced. I’ve packed a bag full and found out I can live with that the minimum allowance. If it doesn’t fit, I will just buy what I need over there.
This trip is going to be a long haul. It’s been years since I’ve traveled this far; way back in the early 80′s actually, on my flights to and from Bahrain. My day starts off with an eight hour bus ride from Texarkana to Houston. Then a twelve hour flight on Turkish Air out of Houston, with a 3 hour layover in Istanbul, then a six hour flight to Mumbai. At least getting a short time to stretch my legs and hopefully a real Turkish meal, even if in the airport, will be a welcome respite. Then a few days in Mumbai to get past the jet lag and acclimate to the heat before a one hour flight north to Ahmedabad.
Only a few more things to do in preparation for the trip. Really looking forward to it. Time is flying by.
